Children's Hospital Foundation works closely daily not only with medical specialists, children's parents, donors, the public, the media and other non-governmental organizations involved in the promotion of children's health and social welfare but also with the responsible authorities of the state to jointly provide support and help for children and their families, improved health and social support system for children in Latvia.

Talking to parents every day, we have realized that it is important to help financially and emotionally, that is why we have created several support mechanisms so that the parent can concentrate and fully perform his main task - to help the children heal and develop.

For the past four years, parents whose children have various mobility impairments have been turning to the Children's Hospital Foundation for help. Mostly the support is requested for the co-financing of orthoses and orthopedic shoes. The average amount of co-financing is EUR 3,000 for one orthosis. Until now, thanks to the active participation of donors, every year the foundation has managed to co-finance and individually support 40 children with mobility impairments. In 2023, support for children with mobility impairments amounted to almost EUR 100.000.

The cost of orthoses and orthopedic shoes is not one-time. As a child grows, new orthoses and orthopedic shoes must be made regularly. Therefore, support for these families is necessary regularly - every year.

Orthoses and orthopedic shoes are not the only costs that parents have to cover. The child needs regular therapies (physiotherapy, other developmental therapies), as well as often requires medical manipulations, which are mostly paid for by the state, but consume enormous emotional resources from the family.
